During the pipeline’s construction, a range of important factors were considered. These included:

  • current and planned land use,
  • the terrain,
  • geological and seismic features, and
  • known farm management practices.

However, there are still things that can threaten the integrity of the pipeline. Everybody has a part to play. While TGP makes regular checks of the pipeline, from both the air and ground, you can keep us informed of anything that may affect the pipeline’s operation.

As a landowner whose property the pipeline crosses, not only can you be our “eyes and ears”, you can also help ensure your own activities don’t interfere with the pipeline.

There are four simple rules-of-thumb to follow:

  1. Never plant deep-rooted trees or place structures on the easement.
  2. Do not carry out fencing activities within the pipeline easement, or in areas where a gas pipeline marker post is visible
  3. Never carry out any excavation work within the pipeline easement without a Before-You-Dig request
