Fonterra - From Coal to Gas Boilers

To reduce Fonterra's coal consumption, Fonterra converted their coal-fired boilers to natural gas at their Spreyton site in Tasmania.

Fonterra’s Australian sites consume a significant amount of energy in steam generation and use, so Fonterra continually look for ways to optimise the boiler operations at their sites that generate this steam.

In 2012, Fonterra invested $6.5 million to convert their coal-fired boilers to natural gas at their Spreyton site in Tasmania. These gas-fuelled boilers are less carbon intensive than coal and will reduce the site’s carbon emissions by 35 per cent per annum.
